147 Dunlop St E, Barrie

In the centre of Barrie, almost on the waterfront of Lake Simcoe, on 147 Dunlop Street E, there is a lovely Italian place named 147. The entrance to the restaurant is a bright orange-coloured door that opens up to a nicely decorated place with a pleasant atmosphere.

The 147 restaurant is a family-owned place that provides meals cooked with love, attention, and devotion, a nod to the owner’s family traditions. They serve Italian dishes with Canadian influences, vegetarian and vegan meals, and gluten-free options made with fresh ingredients. An extensive wine bar that features quality wines and grapes from around the globe.

Romantic atmosphere
147 has a casual, relaxed atmosphere, only serves dinner, and caters to singles, couples, groups and large groups, but with previous reservations. It is closed on Sundays and Mondays, and from Tuesday to Saturday, it opens its doors from 5 PM until 10 PM.

Many patrons have visited the 147 and made their praises and remarks about this restaurant online on Trip Advisor, Facebook, Google Reviews and Open Table. I have read through them and found the most often noted pros and cons, which I’ll share.

Pros:

  • Amazingly prepared and served dishes
  • Fresh ingredients and homemade bread
  • Romantic setup
  • Fully stocked bar section and excellent wine list
  • Accommodating, professional staff

Cons:

  • Some complaints about slow service
  • Some complaints about the price and size of dishes

The 147 started serving the residents of Barrie in February 2017. It is owned and run by an Italian family that respects the traditions of using fresh ingredients prepared with love. The professional chef running the 147 kitchen is skilled in making each dish.

The exterior of the 147 Restaurant is simple, with One Forty-Seven in bold black letters in front and a large bright orange door that catches the attention. The interior is gorgeous and aesthetically pleasing, with exposed brick walls and black accents.

There is a bar section where patrons can wait for their table or enjoy a glass of wine. The restaurant section has tables that feature nice black tablecloths, and the food is usually served on large white plates that make each nicely presented dish stand out. The antipasti are typically served on wooden boards, adding to the Italian charm of 147.

According to Trip Advisor, 147 is currently rated as the #20 restaurant in Barrie, but as I could see from the many satisfied reviews, this number is sure to change for the better. It is quite the place to have a nice romantic dinner or book the site for a party. You can even rent out their services for any event you need. Enjoy a waterfront view while you enjoy a nice glass of wine and a good meal at 147.
